The Pre-Digital Project
It all started with a box….
We were gawking over the contents of this box (really old photographs, tintypes and postcards) when it occurred to us that we should share them. After all, some of them really blew us away. We started looking around but could not find a suitable website dedicated to preserving, enjoying and sharing historic images. The Pre-Digital Project was born.
The Goal is Simple
PDP’s mission is to spread the word that these photographs – so often overlooked because they do not have people in them – are irreplaceable and need to be preserved. We know there are thousands of boxes and drawers packed with incredible images of forgotten places, locations, landmarks and miscellaneous items. We want them preserved before they fade away, or worse, are tossed out.
The Details
Specifically, PDP is focused on images taken before the year 2000, and includes photographs, cartes, cabinet cards, photo postcards, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. At this time we are not archiving images that primarily focus on people. We would suggest other sites, including Ancestry.
The Pre-Digital Project respects intellectual property rights of others and expects its users to do the same. All images posted at The Pre-Digital Project remain the property of their submitters.
